Cannibal Ferox/Make Them Die Slowly/
Woman from Deep River (1981)

Gloria, Rudy and Pat are in the Amazon to prove that cannibals don’t exist. While traveling to find a mysterious tribe, they meet up with two drug dealers who seem to running away from that same tribe. Instead of escape, the 5 end up back at the camp and have to deal with the very people they are trying to subject to their will.

Overall: This film was banned in 31 countries which should tell you that it has tons of torture and other sick scenes. True there are some visually disturbing images out there. My original review downplayed the scenes but a second showing changed my mind. I will grant you that "Hellraiser" on a first viewing looks the same in the graphic torture but this stuff looks more realistic. The lady hanging from the post is clearly the most realistic and disturbing. Also, the animal scenes are very “national graphic’ish” - in that it is basically watching real animals live and die. But the turtle scene – that disturbed me the most. That was so wrong on so many levels.

The story isn't very good, at least as it spends 52 minutes about the jungle, then jumps in with scenes of NY and a drug dealer and finises with that plot line the rest of the way. Either eliminate that subplot or connect it better. Note the dig at American Express. The film goes out of its way to shock you but when all is said and done, it does.
