In 1476 Vlad Dracula is brought before an inquisition of the Eastern Orthodox church and demanded to account for his actions. He tells his life story.
Overall: I was tempted to even skip the short summary since essentially the film is a documentary of Dracula a.k.a Vlad Tepes, a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler’s life. Starts with birth and goes through the long history of his life. The event log isn’t perfect but it is fairly interesting and in depth. Treats Dracula as a human who has religious differences and explain why he impales people, where the rage comes from, etc. It does nothing really to show him as a vampire but does point to perhaps a linking of evil genetics. I visited Vlad Tepes’ birth place in 1993 and saw his "castle" so I took particular enjoyment in viewing this film. I definitely recommend this for your viewing pleasure. It isn’t really horror per say but still explains more than most films. Comparison: Bram Stoker's Dracula meets Braveheart |
