Deep Red/Profondo rosso (1975)

Marcus is a simple pianist who is just trying to get through the day. But when a neighbor of his is murdered, he feels the need to investigate. At all costs, he and a female reporter do what they can to get down to the bottom of the mystery that will really hit home.

Overall: This is the sort of film that reminds me to stop watching Italian films. It’s very much like “Sleepless” with some “Scanners” thrown in. But why Marcus feels the need to investigate, why the killer is doing what they are doing, etc. all don’t seem to have answers. I should have learned with “Sleepless” to quit watching these films since it suffers almost identical killer issues. You have your red herring killer, someone pretending to be a killer to deflect focus on the real killer, and some personal issues not fully fleshed out. Then the female reporter plays a large part at the beginning of the movie and seems to vanish from the end. Ugh!
