Jennifer 8 (1992)

John Berlin has moved from Los Angeles to the sleep town of Eureka and joined a buddy of his on the police force. But from the very first day, his tenure there becomes fractured as he tried to re-open old wounds into an investigation that everyone knows more about than he does. He figures out a person is killing blind women in his town but when he falls for one who is being stalked, the mission becomes personal. Too bad he’s the only one who even thinks a serial killer exists. Everyone else thinks he’s the psycho.

Overall: This film is way too long! Given the plot and the eventual ending, the scenes with John Malkovich are basically unnecessary. In fact the scenes last almost 30 minutes each time with Malkovich and lead you no closer to an outcome of “Who done it?”. In addition, it is obvious the body in the bathtub is NOT Uma. If you saw “Henry & June” or “Dangerous Liaisons” that should be obvious. In addition, the motive for the killer is quite weak. Given the 127 minutes running time, they seem to have more than enough to uncover a good motive...but don’t. Why the guy does it is silly, why he doesn’t kill Uma goes unanswered (even when Uma is looking for the answers from Garcia), and why Garcia is so pent up for a killer he never heard about seems just plain weird. Be prepared to grab your remote and fast-forward, you’ll want to.

Comparison: Basic Instinct meets Kiss of the Spider-woman
