St. Francisville Experiment (2000)

          Summary: 4 haunted house experts agree to go to a haunted house and try to document it to help prove once and for all non-believers. What they learn there, was that the house once served as a torture chamber for slaves, way back when in 1800's New Orleans. What they find is very unhappy spirits who choose to do to our intrepid experts, what once happened to them: blood, death and suffering.

          OverallOverall: Nice summary, eh? I really disliked this film and all I can think of now is..."Is this what the haters of "The Blair Witch" are saying" about that film? The film was bogged down with interviews and crap and basically bored me to tears. I wondered if they’d ever get to the house. Once they got there, all I could think of was “if you are so scared, just leave.” At least in “Blair Witch” the characters couldn’t find their way out and the sense of being lost played into the fears of the audience and made the story scarier. Here, all the people have to do is leave the house and it’s over. The fact that they all lived even further made me dislike the film. What exactly was the point again??? The film couldn’t really have been better and the actors better go back to their day jobs. They looked like actors and sounded like actors. They were so focused on ill-scripted roles that it became so obvious that this was a film, not a documentary. At least “Blair Witch” “seemed” real. No particular attitudes or character development that would cause you to be reminded that Blair Witch's victims are actors. However our film here showed me nothing to indicate is wasn’t full of Hollywood-ization. Skip it!

          12/4/06 Been more than a few years since I wrote this review. Taking a look along the web, I have underestimated how many people dislike this film. And no one just says "it's not very good." Much of the film's dissenters have some real nasty things to say about the movie. And the "Blair Witch" haters tend to also dislike this film too but mostly saying it's not even as "bad"...it's worse.
