Hangman (2001)

Nick Roos thought he caught the infamous killer, Hangman, but it seems a copycat has just sprung up. A body has been found in the house of Dr. Grace Mitchell and no one knows why. Soon the police dept and Grace are drawn into a vicious version of the kid’s game “Hangman” where every wrong letter can mean someone’s life.

Overall: I can’t believe I just wrote that. There are some very brutal ideas out there but “Hangman”? What about a plot revolving around “Chutes & ladders”? Candyland? Operation? I mean, seriously, anyhorror webmaster could think of a more plausible story than this one! The film never answers why that game except for the tie-in to the killer who hung people. But then, why not just hang the new victims and make cheesy phone calls or something? The story does get a teeny bit better when u find out the killer isn’t working alone and the person arrested may not be guilty. It does make up for some flaws later on with creative plot lines. The ending though really makes this effort in wasting 2 hours of time, truly futile. The ending is so unsatisfying, you really gotta wonder what the point was in making this film? The film does a little “Along Came a Spider” stuff to make the middle of the film interesting...until a “hangman” scene shows up. I mean, why not play “Russian Roulette” at least?

Comparison: Along Came a Spider meets Resurrection
