New Year’s Evil (1980)

Roz Kelly is a DJ hosting a New Year’s Eve TV show to count down the hours till the next year. But she gets a phone call where a caller plans to kill people on each of the next 4 hours when it turns midnight in those time zones...and they’ll be friends of hers. Turns out, Roz has more than she can bargain for since this killer knows her so intimately, not even armed security can stop him.
Overall: I was excited when hearing of this film’s premise. Caller goes time zone to time zone killing over a 4 hours span. Ah...I didn’t pay enough attention. All the work happens in California so the feat isn’t as impressive as I thought. The motive is quite weak and weaker still is the ending. More unrealistic is the police response. Most horror films take place over days or months. This film starts and stops in 4 hours and the police are at the station with force almost immediately! Yeah, right!
