John Jasper hasn’t had a good week. His girl was beaten and killed in front of him and he’s ready to take his own life. But a mysterious stranger, called “M,” offers a different option: revenge. In exchange for John’s soul, John will be given “The Hand” – embattlements which allow him to wield giant spears attached to his arms to impale and kill his nemesis. But after destroying those who wronged him, John’s new appendages influence his brain and John begins to try his new powers on the innocent, and that’s where he gets into trouble. Soon he’s in jail, out of jail, in love with a doctor and battling M for world supremacy. Not bad for a 5 day workweek!
Overall: The film is very comic-boookish so it definitely leaves something to be desired. I came out of it begging Andrew Divoff to turn into the “Wishmaster” and quit this white-haired old man stuff, but alas, his character gains no such strength or intelligence. Instead the film plays as a very gory episode of “Spawn.” Comparison: A Nightmare on Elm St. meets The Crow |
