Sideshow (2000)

5 teens are having a night out at the local “Freak Show.” Looking for oddities and people to laugh at, they’ve definitely come to the wrong carnival. Bobby has been strung along on a blind date of sorts with Tommy, who’s looking to score with Melanie, however Bobby was forced to bring his handicapped brother, grant. Once inside, Bobby’s date gets lost and one by one as they look for her, they find that this freak show does more than show off freaks…they create new ones.

Overall: These are not exactly neither uplifting nor stereotypical horror film characters. The girl complaining that she’s not very good looking definitely is right. But she almost sets new records for actually employing ugly actors on a film. The whole wheelchair thing is quite unique but it really bogs the story down since the characters are limited to what the brother can do. The film is chock full of cliché’s, such as “Is that your final answer?” And what makes the film worse, is the handicapped brother knowing who is behind all the mayhem, actually befriends the killer!!!!! Don’t miss the boom mic 66 min into the film, either. What I can say that was good about this, was the fact this film finally motivated my recent additions (April 2002) to the Sinning Room. I’d been so depressed after watching Italian horror film after Italian horror film, I was actually sick of watching horror. But I braved my own derision and after watching this film, achieved a sort of equilibrium, which broke my “writer’s block.” So I’m back now and this film saved the web page! Go freaks!
