Along Came a Spider (2001)

Alex Cross is on the case of a missing politician’s kid and thinks his old nemesis, Gary Soneji, is behind it. But this conspiracy gets weirder when even Soneji has no clue what’s going on and the kid is stolen from him. Now Cross must battle 2 supreme masters of deception and the political ramifications are deadly...

Overall: Pretty good film. The best scene in the film is the one most obviously done with computer graphics – the car crash at the start. The best part of the film is the underlying story. However a problem is that to make it into the film, you gotta cut stuff out, and that can be some of the good stuff. The Cross character always ends up hooking up with ladies in the books but I think the studios have wanted to ensure Morgan Freeman isn’t looking like a “slut” and also allows them to avoid the issue of mixed-racial dating. Also the character of Soneji actually lives, in order to make appearances in 3 more books. So in essence this becomes the director’s interpretation of this book by itself. I enjoy the film and the twists in it but frankly, I think the book is better and if you had to do one or the other…pick the book. Overall though, it’s a decent film.

Comparison: Silence of the Lambs meets Omen 3
