A rescue ship receives a distress signal from an American outpost in the far reaches of space. It goes through time travel to get there and finds an unspeakable unknown evil. The crew must find a new way to defeat a new species.
Overall: I made the above as vague as possible to point out the similarities between this and a Sinning Room favorite “Event Horizon.” Granted the film is different as you look closer but the basic story is the same and it makes you wonder what the director was thinking. They do include in the film a bad guy with a special 9th dimensional matter that could create life where was no life. But this just reeks of ripoff: try “Star Trek: Wrath of Khan” and it's "Genesis Program." Same thing, different year. I guess the most interesting thing is about 10 minutes in as the ship is about to jump to light speed, everyone strips nude for this task. Apparently they built time travel pods where if anything else outside of your body is in it, it can mutate with the person—hence the nudity. Of course, when u make stuff this specific, it calls out for me to criticize it. Let’s just say this: if anything in the pod causes mutations, then I guess in space they don’t send people with tattoos, piercings, people with injuries who may have had pins inserted into joints, etc. Personally, I think it was a con on Robin Tunney to get her to appear nude. She’s the only one who shows off what she’s got – the rest are conveniently blocked throughout most of the film. Well one of the reasons the film isn't very good can be attributed to the name of the director: Thomas Lee. For the uninitiated, it's the sequel to the pseudonym, Alan Smithee. The Director's Guild retired that "fake name" with a new "fake name." Bottom line, was that the original director of this film was having all sorts of issues with his story and everyone else wanting to change it. A few financial decisions later, he was gone and a new director (Francis Ford Coppola) cleaned up. You know your movie ain't gonna do well, when love scenes between Peter Facinelli and Robin Tunney are digitally re-edited and her skin color changed so they can become love scenes between James Spader and Angela Bassett.
