Ed Gein/In the Light of the Moon (2000)

This is the story of serial killer Ed Gein and his terror in the Midwest. Starting with his childhood, his mother and his unique personality traits, we watch Ed as he starts to develop and hone his unique fetishes.

Overall: I was disappointed by the film and didn't really see a coherent plot. Granted the film does grab Gein's life after the death of his mother and chronicles his murders but does so by just picking a time in his life and jumping in with both feet - they make no attempt to link this story as important than any other year in his life and if anything, seem to completely misunderstand him as a killer. The man was probably more accurately portrayed in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" than this film as here he seems more like Ted Bundy - a functional serial killer who only occasionally injures people. The film spends so much time with Gein socializing with others, that you'd think the film was chronicling the beginning of Internet chat rooms. I found the film basically lost in itself. How did Gein go from the beginning to the end that couldn't have been linked to other events. What happened to the prior years of his life? I was looking for a reason on why this film was made and I missed it. Care to help?

Overall: Sound of Music meets Elmer Gantry
