Cherry Falls (2001)

In a span of a few days a few teenage virgins are killed at George Washington High School in Virginia. Jody's dad is the sheriff and discovers the cruel motive early on, but not late enough for the entire school to plan a giant "deflowering" party. Maybe then the killer will spare them - but then again maybe she won't!
Overall: Sorry but this is the year 2001 - kids are having sex at age 12, so to imagine that this many kids are virgins, is very hard to swallow! (no pun intended) The plot is somewhat interesting, as it involves Lauralee Sherman and her rape by 4 high school seniors 27 years ago. Many on the IMDB said the killer's identity was obvious early on. I don't agree that it was that easy, but the motive is surely obvious. The film would do better had the actual character that is the killer do their own stunts! The killer sells itself off as the spawn from the rape long, long ago, but working where I do, I know there is no way they'd know who daddy was without the genetic test - which was definitely not done. Like most films I pick on, why kill high school virgins when the 4 seniors are the ones that the revenge needs to be taken on? The film doesn't even try answering that question, only answering what special connection the sheriff has to the whole issue. I did like the film's idea of the giant orgy but don't watch this film for assumed nudity - there isn't any! But oh, what a great porn film this could have made! 2 of the actors in this film appeared in "Children of the Corn" sequels and 2 others in the original "Buffy" film. Exactly how did Kenny figure it all out? That isn't properly addressed but the film's ending does go wild on gore. So you may enjoy. Comparison: Pep Squad meets Psycho |
