Chopping Mall/Killbots (1986)

- written March 1999

Unique little brand of cheese about killer robots running amok in a quaint mall. Seems the mall owners want to provide more security so in the same vein as "Robocop," they bring in some robots to patrol everything. But alas, on the first night the robots take over after lightning storm hits the power generators. The robots begin to turn deadly as the result of the extra energy coursing through their circuitsand disturb 8 mall employees trying to have a slumber party. Of course they don't know of the deadly robots until they all split from the group one by one after engaging in the obligatory sex which most cheezy horror films of the 1980's had. Then when their numbers have been reduced and they all had their smoke, the robots search and destroy.

Overall: Cheezy idea and title but hey, it works. Rent it for laughs. Stars one of the guys from the TV show “Head of the Class” Tony O’Dell and the Sinning Room’s own Dick Miller (Night of the Creeps, Evil Toons). The film goes along the lines of a made for TV film with Paul Reiser called “The Tower” and also an "X-Files'" episode about a computer with artificial intelligence. Note: This film was made 7 years prior to Reiser’s film and 12 years before the "X-files’" episode.

          Comparison: Terminator meets Clueless
