Last House on the Left (1972)

Mari Collingwood and her friend Phyllis are taking a night on the town for pot and boys but whom they come across are the Krug family - father, son, girlfriend and a 4th felon nicknamed the Weasel. They decide to use the 2 girls for fun and sex, that is before they kill them. But as bad luck has it, they end up shacking up with Mari's parents when their car breaks down. They do a very poor job of making themselves seem innocent so when Mari's parents find out what has happened, they are looking for some old fashioned revenge.

Overall: Unlike many horror fans this film just isn't too impressive for me. It's supposed to be scary and also creepy but too me it comes across as boring and old. The story is choppy - they go here, they go there - every 5 minutes they are off in different directions. The motive is just killing for fun but it makes the story weak and of course the coincidence allowing the revenge to occur just seems cheezy to me. I think the bottom line of this film is that all but one actor had no career after this film - and the one who did was Martin Kove, known most for being the bad guy karate teacher in "Karate Kid" and the Weasel went on to be a formidable Porn film director - Wes Craven went on to bigger and better things, but for me this film is all hype and no substance.

Comparison: I Spit on your Grave meets Empire Records
