Buried Alive/Beyond the Darkness/Buio Omega (1979)

Francesco is having a fairly interesting relationship with his housekeeper. When Francesco's girlfriend, Anna, passes away he feels the need for her so much that he takes her corpse and preserves it in his bed. But one can't get away with this on their own, so Iris, the housekeeper, decides to use this to get a head in the world. But Francesco's love for Anna is so great he needs to kill others and Iris really cleans house. But when she isn't cleaning the house, she's cleaning him too! Some buyers decide that after Francesco's family had passed they could buy the house, but there's too much paranoia to let anything happen especially when the buyers' start getting too curious for anyone's good. When Anna's sister, Elena, comes for a visit, it all finally comes into a boil and Anna's dead body just won't stand for it.

Overall: The film prides itself on being one of the goriest ever and I think it just may rank up there. Francesco does a good job cleaning and hacking up the bodies and the camera isn't afraid to get any close-ups. The "heart-eating" scene is definitely not for the squeamish. The film is Italian so beware but it definitely is worth a watch.

          Comparison: Oedipus Rex meets Re-Animator
