Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997)
|
Sigourney Weaver is the wicked witch who transforms into a beautiful woman to marry the Lord – after doing this she intends to take over the kingdom. But the Lord’s prior wife gave birth to Lili (Snow White) and years later when Weaver is getting old and unhappy, she finds Lili to blame. Scared away by Weaver and her cohorts she finds herself in the middle of the forest and lost. The 7 not-so-small Dwarfs are there, but they are nothing more than 7 rag-tag band of thieves. Lili must get back home and they are her best bet to save her – if they don’t rape her first.
Overall: The Brothers Grimm would be proud of this film. We have stripped away the "Disney Fun" to get back to the original intent of these master storywriters. My first viewing back in 1999 wasn't supportive but when "The Brothers' Grimm" got released starring Matt Damon...well I had to take another look. I still find the sets and scenery enjoyable and still find the casting to be odd. Few big names but I still feel the film missed the mark with a lot. And it's probably because people, including me, just aren't ready for a trip back to the originals, because we've gotten used to the glossed-over romanticism. It's worth one viewing.
