In the Mouth of Madness (1995)

John Trent is just an ordinary sort of guy who has way too much common sense and skepticism. See, he is a fraud investigator and able to sniff out a lie from 20 feet. So when a book publishing chain hires him to find their missing author, he takes the job if only to figure out why the company is engaging in this public relations event. But the more he searched for the author, Sutter Cain, the more he realizes this isn't exactly a joke. Sutter Cain books have been having awesome effects on the readers including causing riots at bookstores. As each book is released, the tension in the country increases. He brings along for the journey the editor of Cain's books but she's the first to "go off the deep end." Soon John can only trust his heart because his eyes are finding creatures and deformed monsters, the like of which Stephen King couldn't dream up. Unfortunately just as he is ready to give up the ghost and admit he's failed, he meets up with the author, or what used to be him. The last book is killer!

Overall: Another awesome film by Sam Neill and a great story by John Carpenter. Enjoy Jurgen Prochnow as Sutter Cain but be prepared to be a bit frightened. It's like going into the story of a book and then finding out how real it actually is. Beware because this film really blurs the lines of reality!

          Comparison: Misery meets Hellraiser
