Event Horizon (1997)

Summary:It has been 7 years and all of a sudden the space ship, Event Horizon, has been heard from. 7 years ago it was designed to go where no ship has gone before - with faster than light travel to Proximus Centaurai. But now beyond the planet of Neptune, the ship has come back after 7 years without word - and there are no occupants alive. Dr. Weir has been brought along with a rescue crew to check the ship out. But they soon figure out that not only is the ship filled with dead things, there is something alive in it. With their own ship damaged, they come aboard the Event Horizon to go home - but one by one the crew meets weird and ominous forces, which began to take people's lives. Then the good Dr. meets with the evil force and space will never be the same.

Overall: I really think this is awesome movie merging "2001" with "Hellraiser." Great effects, very scary and of course just a damn good story. Gotta enjoy Sam Neill and even Laurence Fishburne. Moral of the story: be careful for what you wish for, you might just get it.

8/10/07: Wrote that a long time ago and after watching it again recently, on DVD, figured I'll append to it. Still a huge fan of the film. Scary, good effects, good story. The DVD contains a few deleted scenes, all of which I felt should be added. Some additional stuff with our rescue crew plus an alternate ending. Bottom line was that the film is even better with the missing footage. What a shame. But catch this...even more was cut out after the initial test screenings...what a bummer, huh? We see much more of the victims of the event horizon, how they died, the hell they went through, the sheer terror and blood orgies, etc. So we get the mini video 1 hour in as it is. Tells me the original cut for the first "audience" was simply misunderstood. Nevertheless, as it exists for everyone today...good film.
