Overall: Unlike a lot of reviewers of this film, I didn’t see the film the same way they did. Many played the game or at least found the film very “video-game-ish.” I didn’t on either count. I think the film’s biggest flaw is the fact there is too much chatter, too much “Scarlet Letter” going on, and not enough action. As the film went on, all I saw was a woman going through empty streets and buildings and if anything, I saw nothing resembling a video game. At least “Resident Evil” as a film had some look to it...lots of action, lots of violence. This film looked like it wanted to scare you before it turned all “Witches of Salem” on ya. By the end of the film, Rose is more concerned with the religious implications of witches years ago and the devil and seems to have missed the boat on her own daughter. The trailers made this film look scary, we had creatures and ghosts and ashes... The film once seen full through looks more like some sequel to “Warlock” and less about “In the Mouth of Madness.” I wanted more action and less religious diatribe. I wanted a shorter more concise film and instead got a long, confusing melodrama. Skip it. Comparison: The Village meets The Devils |
