Summary: During the Vietnam War, Green Beret Captain Norman Hopper leads a mission into a North Vietnamese village to rescue two of his men only to find them eating another human being. Back in the States, the two men are placed in a hospital for “nervous disorders”. Hopper had gotten bit while he was abroad and is now starting to have visions and hallucinations. When one of the men ends up on a killing spree, he goes to help. But everyone soon realizes that this is really ma virus forcing the victim to become a cannibal. And if they don’t stop it…everyone will die.
Overall: It’s an “ok” film. It sorta wants to be a zombie movie but keeping the characters intelligence by making them straight out cannibals…with a virus. I think the film is sorta slow and at times fails to tie up loose ends. The whole grocery-store shootout scene is way too long and drawn out and they forget to spend time on what’s most important: cannibalism. It’s got some good gore if you get the new version that’s complete. But don’t bother with the film unless it’s the uncut version. And as for the ending...it was like they decided to make it some tragic romance film and forgot it was a horror movie. I think, all in all, there are better “Cannibal” films out there and frankly this one just wasn’t sure what it wanted to be. So go find “Cannibal Holocaust” instead.
