Perth (2004)

Summary: Harry Lee works in Singapore but his goal...his ambition in life is to move to Perth, Australia. Everything he thinks he can be, revolves around moving there. Problem is...he never seems to get himself out of where he is. He moves from job to job and Perth continues to be his dream and the more he talks, the farther away his dream gets. When he falls for a Vietnamese call-girl...he’ll realize that’s the last significant thing he’ll ever do.

Overall: Definitely my first film out of Singapore and I definitely enjoyed it. It takes awhile to build itself up but the film definitely has an intense climax to it. We have a lot of raw emotions here as our protagonist tries to analyze his life compared to everyone else’s. He keeps some bad company with the idea he can leave at anytime. But every time he says “Perth” and dreams of “Perth” you just get this idea he’ll never make it. And ala “Audition,” the sheer violence of the ending comes out of nowhere.

          Comparison: D.C. Cab meets Audition
