Heartstopper (2006)

Summary: Sara has been hospitalized after she basically got run over in a car driven by the local sheriff. Whole there, she meets another patient, Walter. The 2 remain society’s last security against pure evil being released. Seems a certain serial killer believes in deities other than God and as such as basically immune from dying. But he needs a new body for his soul and that’s where Sara comes in. But she’s gonna need some help to get out alive and only these 2 young adults can do it!

Overall: I watched the DVD interview with Robert Englund first and the moment he said (paraphrasing) that there were parts of this film that although they have been done before, no one would recognize them...I felt like this was a good game for me. Well…it’s sorta the same plot as “Shocker” or “Horror Show.” A killer who can’t be executed properly because they need another body to occupy so they can keep killing. But the film soon drifts into other directions which was a welcome sight and definitely made for an entertaining viewing.

I think the film’s greatest attraction is two-fold, both plot points. One...you have 2 protagonists, both of which are hurt and can barely walk. Two, our heroine is wearing a tight white short skirt. The first issue is actually a new take on the good guys running away from the bad guy. This film has our lady heroine in a wheelchair, as our male hero pushes her around while being chased. We all love to watch horror movies and yell at the screen and the “stupid” characters, "Run, run." And what inevitably happens? They get caught and die. In this film...trust me, they ain't going anywhere! They’re basically hospital bound because neither can do much other than "roll" away from the killer. But then you add the outfit to the lady. She’s sitting there, in a chair, short skirt but at least they give her a prop to keep the audience’s eyes focused on the scene and not her. And the outfit keeps her even furthered limited in what she can do. I think these ideas are both attractive but possible problems. It's new and different for the audience since at best we're yelling at our heroes to "roll faster." But it also tends to simplify the plot since frankly…they're not going anywhere. But I'm gonna give our filmmakers “style points” for changing things up. It’s something new and unique so enjoy this.

And finally...we have our male hero, Walter. Guy gets stabbed and then is taken to the hospital. He’s sewn up and left to recuperate. Without a shirt or much covering, he recuperates. Spends the rest of the film barely clothed... recuperating. So ladies...enjoy.
