Summary: The police have just found Sheila’s dead body and while trying to determine the reason for her death, they also come across a tape recorder. And now they know...Sheila was one of 5 friends out in a cornfield, after dark and soon after all dying 1 by 1 at the hands of an evil scarecrow. This is her story.
Overall: I’m sooooo confused by my emotions that this film has uncovered in me. There is so much that is cheesy or bad in this film and yet I’ve read bad reviews by other people, and I sit here and think “ok, it’s not that bad!” It’s essentially the plot from “I Know What You Did Last Summer” which is “fine”...not original but this whole flashback, retelling is interesting. Some criticize it because after 10 minutes, there are no surprises...the story is over and now we just fill in the gaps. I think the true flaw to the film is the interaction between the 2 detectives (ala “X_Files’ Mulder & Scully) and the fact that one believe in the story from moment 1 and the other never does. But...I can’t buy the sheer 100% belief systems these 2 have with so little to go on...nor the fact that these cops wanna start beating each other up by the end of the film, all over a “suicide victim” and her tape recording of a story about a killer scarecrow. I sorta like the dialogue between the 2 and yet they go way beyond overboard with the script in this film in that regard. Bottom line for the film...it totally loses credibility. But it still like isn’t beyond truly awful as many reviews suggest. It’s just “ok.” Comparison: I Know What You Did Last Summer meets Scarecrow Gone Wild |
