The Curse of the Werewolf (1961)

Summary: Leon has been born into wealth but hides a deep secret. His impending love affair with his bosses’ daughter helps bring out the wolf in him and soon only taking his own life, will cure Leon of his affliction. Question is, how many people die on the way???

Overall: This film sorta bugged me. It tried to do something different with the whole werewolf myth and the way someone gets it. Which is fine…except that we know from moment one that Oliver Reed is out star player. Yet, he doesn’t appear until 48 minutes have passed. It’s 48 minute slowly setting up how he became a werewolf and how his mom came to get the curse and who raped her and how the rapist got into a place to have the curse before he raped the girl, etc. Bottom line, is that everyone in the first 30 min is gone by the 50 minute mark. Seemed like way too much build-up and not enough action. I’d skip it, despite being a fan of Oliver Reed’s.
