Maximum Overdrive (1986)

On June 19, 1987, a comet passed over the earth and the tail left enough alien debris that all mechanical devices on earth went haywire and out of control. It was to pass over for only 8 days, but the death and destruction it did, ensured life would be hell. Bill is just an ex-con looking for a job and finds one at Bubba Hendershot’s "Dixie Boy Truck Stop," on the interstate. But when the comet passes over, every truck from all over the country comes driving in to this truck stop, one of the few bastions of human life. But these trucks have minds of their own and what they want is the all important gas they need to survive. It is Bill who must do what the homicidal trucks want while trying to save all his fellow truck stop companions, including Brett - a girl he has begun to fall in love with. Meanwhile the key is to stay alive long enough so the comet can pass - but doing so won’t be easy!

Overall: Well another one of Stephen King’s stories has been made into a movie. A few of his stuff seems to do well: "Shawshank Redemption," "Stand by Me," "Green Mile" and yet others come up horrible: "Graveyard Shift," "The Mangler," and "Sleepwalkers." This is probably more bad than good. The comet’s effects practically every mechanical device, except of course cars and boats. Oh yeah, and Donald Trump’s former wife Marla Maples is in the beginning of this film credited as "2nd woman." Try not to miss that. The film has some decent effects, nice ideas with the joker truck, but overall, it still seems to make little sense - all mechanical devices come alive and in fact begun to get homicidal ides, killing people, whom they can see and sense and understand. But the devices stop at cars, boats, and gas pumps. Can be interesting film, if in the right mood.
