Ragdoll (2002)

Summary: A little girl is shielded by her father as her mother is killed by supernatural, black magic elements. Now 58 years leter, thay little girl now a grandmother to a up and coming hip hop artist, Kwame. And Kwame has some grand esigns with his 3 friends on being famous. But just when all looks well for stardom, a local entrepreneur and gangster comes to slow them down. Soon Kwame will be in a battle he can’t win and when his grandmother gets hurt in retaliation, Kwame escalates things to a deadly level when he calls on “The Shadow Man” using his grandmother’s curses. Now even this mysterious demon will want in on Kwame’s soul.

Overall: I will say this for the movie...it tried really hard to have a plausible and cohesive story. I mean, they really built up the whole back-story to Kwame and his fears and his worries and everything. So when he runs to the book of curses, you totally understand everything. Now that doesn’t mean the film is good though. Kwame promises “anything” to the demon for killing the bad guys...but there’s nowhere where he even insinuates everyone plus the bad guys will die. This ragdoll is killing everyone in its path, which I thought was a bit out of order, especially will no hints. What’s the point of killing Kwame’s friends, if you are “The Shadow Man” since you’ll already have Kwame’s soul too??? But all this has forced me to digress...forces me to delay in telling you how fake the opening sequences looks when the mother of the girl gets attacked by a dress. Yes, a flying dress. And sure it’s supposed to be scary...supposed to be a ghost/demon. But I swear it was almost more fake than the scene from the 1960’s film “Bedknobs and Broomsticks.” And if there is anything that will ensure you hit “stop” on your DVD player while watching this movie...that scene will.
