Summary: Camille and Piere are just trying to enjoy the local carnival when they come across an ape-man and his trainer, Dr. Mirakle. They latch onto Camille’s personality and charm and soon, our two protagonists are locked in a mystery involving deaths of prostitute and human-looking animals. And who is responsible for all these deaths?
Overall: It has elements of Poe’s story but still avoids the true connection with the deaths and the culprit for it. Frankly, the film bored me. I’m a big Lugosi fan, thought he did a fine job but many of these scenes were so long...so drawn out...just so filled with weak dialogue. And let’s finally get to the monkey...it’s a guy in gorilla suit on far shots, an obvious chimpanzee on close-ups. It’s distracting, fake...and regardless of what advances they had and didn’t have back then...it still looks weak. Comparison: Dr. Renault's Secret meets Congo |
