Summary: Dr. Mailtland comes into contact with a acquaintance who normally passes along reputable items acquired in disreputable ways, who has come into possession of the skull of the Marquis De Sade. Soon his possession of the skull will lead to very bad things and its predicted to go this way by the previous owner. Seems a demon used to possess the Marquis and still occupies the skull and no one can escape its clutches.
Overall: It’s difficult to pass on a film starring Christopher Lee and Pete Cushing but for every good film they make, a film like this exists also. Their performances are fine, but it’s the story that just doesn’t go well. A haunted skull? The whole setup for the purchase isn’t realistic, in fact its incredulous. And the way they re-wrote the Marquis’ own history making him a Satanist was quite objectionable. Bottom line, the story itself is this film’s problem and nothing can escape the vision of this as a bad film. Comparison: Quills meets The Screaming Skull |
