Switchback (1997)

Frank LaCrosse is an FBI agent on a mission: find his kidnapped child and the serial killer who took him. Meanwhile Bob Goodall is on a mission: get to Utah and hopefully find some nice hitchhikers along the way. That he does when he picks up Lane Dixon. Lane is very wary upon his first moments with Bob, because Bob’s car is outfitted with pictures of nude women. Of course he immediately wants out thinking that Bob is a bad guy, yet a stop at a bar in a mining town does him even worse and Bob saves him from certain death. As these 2 make their way to Utah, Frank isfollowing a trail, a trail that is left by these 2. He knows a serial killer is loose except he doesn’t even know what the killer looks like. It is then that we have to figure out who the killer is, and who his next victim will be. Meanwhile Frank’s trip gets bogged down as one murder takes place during the last days of an election war for Sheriff meaning Frank can’t even conduct his investigation without hurting someone’s feelings. But time seems to be running out. Can Frank make it to find his son or will the killer vanish forever once he enters Utah?

Overall: Very decent film with great acting by Danny Glover. The film seems to put a more human face on serial killers with this one actually having the bad guy do good deeds. It gives him likeable qualities while also scaring you with his murderous acts. Definitely a recommended film.
