Overall: Where do I start? First thing is that this film isn’t too bad...if it took out the parts related to “Hellraiser” series. Shouldn’t be that difficult to do because there is so little of the “Hellraiser” idea in the film. It’s basically a direct copy of “Jacob’s Ladder,” “Intersection” and “Soul Survivors.” Basically someone is dead and we gotta figure out who and why. I think had the film edited out the “Pinhead” and “Kirsty” references it could have made a really good sequel to “Jacob’s Ladder” (intentionally or unintentionally). But including these references and attempting to the tie the film to the series was a mistake. It furthers trashes Barker’s original ideas and makes itself look trite. The movie has very little that is “Hellraiser-ish” and if you watch the “alternate scenes” you’ll see why. This film kind of fits after part 2 and could have been interesting but all the connectors to the 2nd film were cut out. The director even says “I didn’t want to make this only for ‘Hellraiser’ fans”...who the hell else is gonna watch the sixth film of a horror movie series? I can’t imagine anyone watching this film as their first in the series. I beg you to e-mail me if you do. The film is solely for the hard core “Hellraiser” fans...that’s the whole point of making this film and if the director doesn’t understand that, he needs a better day job. Friends don’t let friends direct horror films. So the director clearly missed the boat on this film and had someone given him a dime to “buy a clue,” he’d have realized the film would be way better to either delete all “Hellraiser” references or include a bunch more and make it truly connected to part 2. I liked the basic idea and granted the film is such a giant rip-off of “Jacob’s Ladder” but it still had some good acting by Dean Winters to keep my attention. But the character of Pinhead is very wooden and stiff - no scariness at all - clearly not like in the first 2 films where you knew when HE showed up, “something was going down.” Here Pinhead shows up and I’m ready to hit the fast forward button. I’ve heard the idiot...I mean director...wants to do another, based in Romania. Considering how many movies end up with werewolves or vampires based in Romania/Hungary/Transylvania, I can predict some definite un-unique qualities about the film. Hey, maybe brainless (the director) will have a Van Helsing appear and battle Lon Chaney Jr.’s grandson while worrying whether or not a sister of “The Howling” characters will arrive? Maybe toss in Andrei Chikatilo too!!!! I guarantee to the production company I’ll watch all of their pieces of crap...I mean sequels but it doesn’t mean I have to like them. I mean think about it. All the money we pay to rent this film and all the money they spent on it...we could have cured cancer or stopped Alzheimer’s or something. Think about it.
