From Dusk Till Dawn 3:
The Hangman’s Daughter (2000)

- written February 2000

It is 100 years before the prior 2 films and these Vampires are still pissed off. Marion and John are a newly married couple trying to bring Jesus into everyone’s hearts. But as they are passing on to Tierra Negra they find a town where a hanging is about to take place. Legendary American author, Ambrose Bierce is there too, because he is offering Mexican Outlaw Pancho Villa something priceless. A gunman, Johnny, is set to be hanged but his girlfriend, Esmeralda, won’t hear of it - and, she happens to be the Hangman’s daughter. After whipping her and him, he tries to execute Johnny - but he’s got a way out: a young girl who wants to be an outlaw herself, saves him. The Hangman chases after them with the police, as Johnny runs off with his daughter. But on the way to Tierra Negra, Johnny’s band of outlaws raids a carriage which happens to have as passengers, the couple and Bierce. Pleasantries are exchanged as is gunfire and sooner or later all the parties meet up at a bar in the middle of nowhere. It is there that after a few drinks, John decides to seek revenge on the gang for taking advantage of his woman. A few punches and some spilled blood later, the bar’s patrons (the vampires) decide to have dinner. Can the gang, the Hangman and the Bible-Toters all co-exist long enough to escape the vampires or is it inevitable that the Vampires will save no room for dessert?

Overall: Very good film, easily surpassing part 2. It has an "Unforgiven" atmosphere to the film as well as taking parts of "Desperado" also. The film has a good story, great action, and keeps you involved. It does tend to back away from "the traditional ways " to kill vampires, by pretty much allowing bullets to do the job. Outside of that, it is highly recommended.

          Comparison: Desperado meets Near Dark
