Fright Night (1985)

Charlie may have been watching one too many horror films but when he claims he lives next door to a vampire, no one believes him. His need to protect the neighborhood against Jerry ends up alienating all his family and friends but the corpses keep piling up. Even an appeal to his favorite Hollywood actor, Peter Vincent falls on deaf ears, until his girlfriend Amy pays the struggling actor to cure Charlie. But when they all go to visit Jerry to prove Jerry is human, what they’ll find will really be a pain in the neck.

Overall: I long regarded this as one of my most scariest movies and even upon re-watching this I still think so. The movie is a bit of a comedy but the make-up really is what can freak viewers out. The story is mediocre and with all the cowardice that the character of Peter Vincent exhibits, you’d think it was Bill Clinton refusing to get Castro out of power. But the make-up and the casting of the vampires is what really drives the film. That, and watching “Married With Children’s" Amanda Bearse as a young girl!

Comparison: Near Dark meets Scream 2
