Friday the 13th - Season 1 & 2 (1987)

Overall: I am reviewing the first and 2nd season. You can read over the episode guide:          Here           An old antique dealer made a pact with the Devil to sell cursed antiques. When he dies, his store is inherited by his niece Micki and her cousin Ryan. With the help of Jack Marshak, they fight to retrieve the antiques from the people who bought them to stop them from causing harm.           What I liked about it - Season 1: Simple, easy to follow plot.           What I didn’t like - Season 1: Firstly, what does the plot have to do with the tile…either the day itself, or the film series? And frankly, the series had nothing to do with the films…which furthered made you wonder, that other than dragging you in thinking there was a connection and there wasn’t, why they simply didn’t use a unique name.           I felt every episode could have worked under a 30 minute constraint since it’s a every simple plot. Find the cursed item, recover the cursed item. 2 minutes to explain the item, a few minutes to find it…snag it…action, a climax, the end. Easy. At 40+ minutes (no commercials), it’s too long and not enough good plot to fill the time.           And as much as I did enjoy the easy plots, it’s also very, very contrived with how each episode starts!           What I liked about it - Season 2: I thought the actress who played Micki grew into the role better, lost the curly hair and distanced herself more from (looking back from 2010/11, a young Debra Messing (from “Will& Grace).           What I didn’t like - Season 2: Unfortunately a criticism of the first season as how contrived the plots were…they tell us the item they’ll search for and they do so. Here, we most often don’t even get that…just the characters encounter folks who have items which our heroes then recover to hide away regardless. But at least the first season made an effort to give us basic plot explanations in advance as opposed to making us figure it out.
