Jason X - Friday the 13th, Part 10 (2001)

Jason is back, again, but it is 2010. He’s been executed so many times and survived the only solution left is to freeze him for all eternity and turn him into a Neanderthal. But as the world revolves around money so does Jason’s death turn into a chance for experimentation on him. This backfires causing the only scientist left, to trap him into a cryostasis chamber with her inside it. Skip forward “4.55 centuries” to 2455 and a science field trip uncovers these 2 frozen ice-cubes and thaws them out. But thawing out the good Doc doesn’t provide as much excitement as it does Jason...and now we have re- generation materials to ensure Jason will be “upgraded.” Death Count = 28; Overall Count = 162

Overall: Saw this the 2nd day out and gotta say “damn good film!” Ok, I object to their being a 10th film and read my review on “Hellraiser 4” or “Halloween 7” to give u an idea of my reasons for giving a sequel a 2nd chance. So ignoring the fact the prior 8 didn’t need to be made, the story is very tight. Given the date and setting, the explanation for Jason’s ability to survive death gets explained...no more electricity crap or such. The usual stuff that dooms horror films, sex, law breakings, etc. which foreshadows all death, is here given some humor. The film doesn’t completely take itself seriously and some dialogue and story lines prove that. However the mood is upbeat and you constantly wait for yet another new jab at the prior films. I think the film definitely copies a lot from “Alien 4”, including the look of the ship, the “resurrection,” etc. But in the film the story comes out crisp, cleaner, and more fun. Once you can admit Jason is here and “alive” then the story goes out in new directions and can finally give you a chance to say “finally, someone with a brain got to the character.” I would say this film is like watching one of the all-time worst horror films “Troll 2” and giving it a Pulitzer-prize winning author to write the script, the Pixar “Toy Story” group to do the effects, and the designers of all the Britney Spears outfits together in a room and this is the result. The ladies are all in midriff bearing outfits and nudity is ever-present. The girls are basically all flat too, but better than some films I’ve reviewed. Watching it, was like watching an episode of “7th Heaven” with all the kids trying on the latest trendy clothes. The film was shot in Canada and almost all the actors/actresses are from there. Toronto is getting very popular. The actors are also all from the same Cable TV series. 7 have been in “Earth Final Conflict,” 5 in “Relic Hunter,” and 3 in “Andromeda.” Another film in my “Nepotism” series. What bugged me about the film was the title. So many people I talked to said “You mean this is the 10th film?” I swear they actually thought the “X” was the last name of the character! I said “I’d like a ticket to Jason 10 please.” They said “uh, one ticket to Jason X?”
