Summary: Unsettling, erotic and extreme fable inspired in Perrault’s Red Riding Hood- but here played out by a provocative Lolita. Set in rural Cuba, the film centers around members of a dysfunctional family living in isolation. Sexual deprivation and awakenings lead its members to break taboos from bestiality to incest nothing is left unturned. Visually impressive the film evocatively displays touches of Walerian Borowczyk’s The Beast’. Jorge Molina (director), whose cult status is ever expanding in his native Cuba, is a Professor at the internationally prestigious Havana Film School.
Overall: I’ve been a fan of “One-Eyed Films” releases before and this is another to stock up on. It’s full of plenty of controversial and disturbing visual scenes and not for the weak-hearted. There’s a lot of rape, masturbation, bestiality and finally more rape. Oh and did I mention the disturbing scenes? But the film has a fascinating plot and really uses these scenes to set up the rest of the film, including the ending. It’s a tough but powerful film. Easily a film worht recommending and watching. Good work here! Comparison: Little Red Riding Hood meets Caligula |
