- Erin Marie Hogan has appeared in a few movies, including "Paranormal Entity" and recently in the Showtime TV Series "Femmes Fatales." Anyone looking for more info on Erin or her films, can visit her at her website, her IMDB page or her myspace page.
Q: Hi Erin, glad to have you back again. Without giving too much
away for later questions, what have you been up to since we last
talked (January 2010)?
A: Well, I shot 6 episodes for different television shows: “Femme
Fatales” and “1000 Ways To Die.” I did a promo for Conan O’Brien
which was a lot of fun. A few small things as well, but I’ve mostly been
hoping for another Paranormal Entity to come along!
Q: I noticed you were in an episode of the new tv series “Femme
Fatales.” Would u tell me how you became involved with that?
A: I auditioned. Haha. That was about it.
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's
product, give us in your own words what you want people to know
about the episode.
A: I want people to know that despite the fact that Femme Fatales in on Cinemax, it is not porn. There are sex scenes, but I wouldn’t classify
them as scenes that would be in a “porno.” They are scenes that could
be in a rated R movie. So I encourage- people who are not children- to
watch it.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: It was difficult feeling like I was the frumpy girl! I play a film major, so my character was dressed more relaxed, not as revealing and girlie as the others. It was more “not me” than usual! I felt awkward.
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?
A: I think when someone on the level I’m at gets a role like this, we just shoot it and hope for the best. I just tried to come in really prepared. My character has the least lines of the lead characters, so I put a lot of preparation into trying to make her a character to remember. I
wanted her to be interesting enough that people watching would say
“I hope we get to see more of her.” The casting was so dead on, it was
fantastic. The characters looked their parts to a tee. I wanted to make
sure my performance matched what they already had going for them.
Q: We discussed “Paranormal Entity” a lot last time but now looking
back…tell me about your experience with it…how did that film affect
you and your career?
A: Paranormal Entity.... it was a good learning experience for me. I know more about the money side of the industry now than I did then. Regardless though, if I hadn’t done Paranormal Entity, it’s likely I wouldn’t have gotten a good agent. It’s also likely I wouldn’t get called in for a lot of the roles I’m auditioning for now. It’s pushed me up out of one league and into another because it was so successful.
Q: The last time we talked you were about to work on a few films. Can
you tell me about “The Confined” and “Zombies & Assholes”? What
are they about and when can folks go see them?
A: The Confined was just accepted into the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase and will be showing at the Tivoli in St. Louis, MO. At our last festival we did really well. We won Best Short Film, Nick Acosta won Best Director, and I won Best Actress. Rhett Swanson one of my co-stars was nominated for Best Actor. We’re hoping for a repeat of course, but you never want to hype yourself up for such a thing! Zombies and Assholes premiered a while back, and will make it’s festival circuit premier at the Los Angeles International Shorts Festival. We’ll see what happens!
Q: I was looking again at your resume…tell me a little bit about some
your film short appearances. Which films did you work on and which
ones have been the most rewarding?
A: I’ve worked on more shorts than I can count. Relinquish was my last short film. The actress cast as my sister was fantastic, she was so
perfect for the role. It’s so rewarding when you work with other good
actors and you don’t have to manufacture emotions that the director
wants. When you’re with another good actor, you can feel the
emotions between each other. However that person is acting, really
makes you feel the way your character actually would feel. During
one scene my character wasn’t supposed to cry. I thought it was
appropriate but the director said no, so when Jamie started crying in
the scene she was so good, I started balling my eyes out! I felt so
horrible for her! My character I suppose ended up fighting back tears
haha! But it’s a great feeling when someone is so good, you really
have a strong reaction to their action.
Q: Can you tell me what else you have planned for 2011?
A: Nothing. No I’m kidding, I don’t know yet. We’re coming out of pilot season and more and more pilots cast name actors this year. It was
nearly impossible to even get seen because they knew who they
wanted and went right to the source. Things pick up again around
now, and I’m talking with several people about features, but nothing
is set in stone.
Q: Anything else you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Some
special hobby you have that not many folks know about? A book you
are reading now...or maybe some guilty pleasure tv show you are
watching?
A: Oh man, I feel like everyone is going to un-”like” my fan page if I
answer this! My hobby is pole dancing. I know, I know, now hold on
let me explain! I started pole dancing as training for a role in which I
played a stripper. I got free lessons. I got hooked. In the time I was
training I lost an inch around my waist. I was thrilled, and now I
can’t stop! I’m not into crawling on the floor and dancing sexily, I like
to do really hard aeriel moves. It’s makes me feel strong, and
powerful.
My guilty pleasure show right now is probably Dr. G Medical
Examiner. I don’t know why, but I’ve become really really interested
in how people are dying these days. Yes, I’m actually that strange.
She explains everything though: what this injury did to the internal
organs to cause the person to die. They go through the whole thing
trying to solve the mystery, and find what caused the death. It’s never
a clean cut case. I guess I belong in horror movies.
Q: Finally...can you name a horror movie you’ve been dying to watch
but just haven’t had the opportunity to see yet?
A: Audition. I’m not scared of much, but all things considered, the title’s been keeping me away. Maybe I’ll take the leap this weekend.
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
A: Thanks for asking me for another interview! I look forward to keeping you updated!
