Inside Story - The Elm St. Legacy (2010)

Summary: The definitive account of what many have called the best, most frightening and imaginative horror franchise in motion picture history. This original 2-part documentary features interviews with directors including Wes Craven, Renny Harlin, Ronny Yu and the stars including John Saxon, Alice Cooper, Monica Keena and Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund. This special will also showcase deleted footage, behind-the-scenes clips and rare cast and crew photos.           Overall: Great work here discussing every film in the franchise. It spends much of its time on the first film, obviously with lovely tidbits on how Freddy Krueger came to be. What I enjoyed was the discussion and analysis from the cast and crew of the 2nd film, long believed to be bathed in gay overtones. Watch as the producers, writers and actors discuss when they first started to realize this, and it’s all accidental! In addition was the producers believing the franchise was in the characters, not the actors, as they tried initially to replace Robert Englund as Freddy with a no-namer, and failed.
