Dracula III: Legacy (2005)

- written September 2005

5 years later, Father Uffizi and Luke have traveled to the remote countryside of Romania to rescue Elizabeth and finish Dracula off. But after coming into contact with some TV reporters, they soon realize that that this time, they might not survive. Uffizi has been defrocked from the priesthood and is now suffering the effects of being bit last time. All Luke wants to do is find his girl but realizes what he finds may no longer be recognizable as a human!

Overall: I liked the first two films but this film really lost momentum for me. We have our 3 “Dracula” in as many films and frankly that gets old. Uffizi and everything revolving around him were good. Luke is an annoying character and frankly, no one in this film ever listens to anyone else. Despite the fact that is what the story calls for…it gets upsetting to see Uffizi say for the fourth consecutive scene “Don’t stop the car” and the first thing Luke does is, stop the car. The goal isn’t to piss off your viewers but provide a good story and make it look realistic. Best part of the film was the vampiric clowns. Once they vanish, so does the fun of the film. Roy Scheider didn’t get utilized properly and frankly Rutger Hauer’s acting days are long gone. The sword fight at the end seems like a good idea...but frankly, given the mythos of the Dracula figure, he get his ass way too beat down to respect the writing of this film. Had they treated the character with the respect from part 1...maybe you would have had a decent film. But they didn’t and you don’t.
