Q: Donna, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: Well, it took a while. I began acting in drama classes and Play Production when I was 13 years old. I continued to major in Theatre in high school and college, and received my B.A. in Theatre Arts from California State University, Northridge. From there, I did what most actresses do - I waitressed. Figuring I could learn on set, I began doing background work, and a dear friend of mine in production, Vicki Tripp, got me an audition with a casting director, named Bernard Wright, on a Discover Card commercial, so I could get my SAG card. From there, I studied at The Stella Adler Academy of Acting, and continued to do theatre. I even won a Best Supporting Actress award for my 'Bloody Mary' in "South Pacific." Once upon a time, I even had a featured role with Shawn Wayans in the sitcom "The Wayans Brothers." A few years ago, I finally got a featured role in an indie feature, called "Heart of Fear."
Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "The Oatmeal Man."
A: I play "Mrs. Morris," Krisha's mom. I play a LOT of character roles, and this, although different from anything else I've played, is fun, quirky me! She's a wacky, Susie Homemaker type, who provides some great comic relief early in the film. I hope you like her. She's so goofy, you GOTTA!
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: "The Oatmeal Man" is a campy, fun, horror movie you won't want to miss!
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: My oatmeal mask kept falling off my face, but it worked. Also, it was so delicious, I think I gained 10 pounds!
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work the way you thought it could?
A: When we were shooting, I knew it would be great. In ADR, it was great to see that everything that we tried looked fantastic!
Q: Tell me a little bit about what else have you done. I noticed you also appeared in “Forbidden Border.”
A: Since "Heart of Fear" I've done several other movies. "Forbidden Border" was a blast! I played a Mexican, Lesbian prison bitch, and had the opportunity to speak Spanish and do my own stunts. I even got hit in the head with a faux cast iron frying pan! After that I played 'Dessy' in "Roll Call," which is kind of a dudes' flick. I was a drunken, Jersey girl still holding the torch for her high school sweetheart 20 years later. I was very inappropriate. I met Sean Gordon, who played my son, at the table read, so he got to witness all my craziness first hand. He then offered me the role in this lovely film.
Q: What's next for you? What else does 2010 hold for you?
A: In a few weeks, I will be starting reahearsals for "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" at the Repertory East Playhouse, and after that I am playing a lead role in a film, called "Meatloaf Tree," which I have been workshopping the past couple months. It should be hitting the festival circuits next year.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day? Or perhaps any actors or actresses you’d like to star with in a film?
A: As far as directors go, Spielberg, Coppala, Howard and Reiner, to name a few. And actors, Marisa Tomei; Jennifer Anniston; Frances Mc Dormand; Brad Pitt; Michael J. Fox; Robert Downey, Jr.; Robert DeNiro; Al Pacino. Oh, and I'd like to work more with my husband, Brad Sergi!
Q: What do you look for when picking projects?
A:
Like Monty Python, "Something new and completely different."
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: "Joy Ride." I get too emotionally involved, though, when watching horror flicks. It's like I'm in the movie, so I scream really loud at home or in the theatres. I scare and annoy people. I move my arms and legs like I'm really kicking the #$@^ out of the monster! One of my fave scary movies of all time is "Poltergeist." I don't know if a lot of the youngin's out there have seen it, but it's a goodie!
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
A:
The pleasure was all mine! Boy, after all this typing, I'm getting hungry. Maybe I'll have some meatloaf and then some oatmeal cookies. Hmmm...
