Brayker is a man on a mission, and that is to avoid The Collector. After a car crash where Brayker almost dies, he scampers off to a nearby shelter, once serving as a church. Once he gets inside, he thinks he has a day or two headstart on his enemy, but his enemy can't be killed that easily. The Collector gets the local police involved and corners Brayker in the building. The other inhabitants quickly give up the fact that Brayker has a key, which The Collector claims was stolen from him. But just as the Sheriff is ready to hand over the key, he decides to haul the Collector into jail for lying. Unable to accept that, the Sheriff loses his head (literally) and Brayker must defend everyone's lives. Recognizing he's not wanted, the Collector escapes outside where he summons up demons to help kill off everyone inside. It is then that Brayker tells the 6 that he is a servant trying to keep this key (one of 7) out of the Collector's hands. If he is unsuccessful, the world would catapult into darkness. The demons have 6 of the keys and will stop at nothing to retrieve the last one. God's only solution to the demons was to allow the blood of a person of pure heart, to injure the demons. Despite their valiant tries, they can't find a way out and one by one, the Collector begins to kill Brayker's new friends. The question is, what would happen to the world if Brayker fails?
Overall: Somehow I find myself one of the very few to have liked this film. Good action, good story and Billy Zane is great as the Collector. Even William Sadler, a "Tales from the Crypt" veteran does a great performance. I say "Go for this film and enjoy it." Dick Miller puts in another great Sinning Room performance (Night of the Creeps, Chopping Mall, Evil Toons). Comparison: The Prophecy meets the Flintstones |
