It is 4 years later and the Vigilante is back and this time, he’s in Los Angeles. He is surrounded by a loving family of his daughter Carol and new girlfriend Geri as well as the job as an architect. He’s helping to build a new radio station for KABC, which Geri happens to work for. One day at the mall he is confronted by 5 guys who take his wallet. After Paul roughs one up, they vanish but only to later reappear at his home. He isn’t there but that doesn’t stop these guys. They repeatedly rape the maid and once Paul and Carol get home, they are attacked also. Paul is left beaten up and Carol is kidnapped. Now Paul must again save his family from muggers. But even before he starts, Carol is raped and killed. With vengeance in his heart he sets up a room in downtown L.A. and works his anger out from there. Slowly but surely he finds the men and kills them, also nailing assorted bad guys along the way. Geri meanwhile begins to feel lost as Paul has drifted away from her and even Paul’s work suffers. L.A. Police immediately realize their vigilante could spur problems of citizen uprisings similar to NY and ask Frank Ochoa for help. But NY doesn’t want to admit they let Paul go and send Ochoa to L.A. to tell Paul to stop. But can anyone stop the Vigilante or will all criminals face his vengeance?
Overall: Decent film which unlike the prior film cuts to the chase a lot faster. Gotta wonder how much the director enjoyed the rape scene from part 1, since here we have even more such scenes. We also have Laurence Fishburne ("Event Horizon") and Bronson’s real-life wife Jill Ireland in this film. The first film had Paul Kersey going from NY to Chicago and this films jumps Paul and Carol smack-dab into L.A. It was 8 years between parts 1 & 2 but 4 years in the 2 movies. Decent film but not a must-see. Comparison: Death Wish meets Colors |
