Summary: Jamie has found the dead body of his wife and a ventriloquist dummy next to her. Back in his hometown there were rumors and ghost stories involving Mary Shaw and her dolls. She was murdered and apparently wants some revenge. However how does she connect to Jamie? Well Jamie is going home to find out!

Overall: The creators of “Saw” had to know they’d be under increased scrutiny for this film after coming up with just a tremendous trilogy already. They decide to go a new route and all over the place you find very bummed fans. They expected more, didn’t see same originality, etc. Not sure I buy all that. Because in the end, it’s a different film, different story and you gotta get that mind open. It’s not a perfect film, even now days after finishing it...I still stick with the “and you killed Jamie’s wife...why?” (as opposed to Jamie himself)

But I think the film was a good scare, had some nice atmosphere to it and of course if one performance stood out, it was the character of “Mary Shaw.” I think the film sorta relied on the poem and the press to help itself be scary and a horror film legend. In the end, the film has to live on its own and the poem, although cute doesn’t do much for me. In fact the film sorta didn’t follow through enough tying our film, our deaths to the idea of silence. By the end of the film you really wonder “if no one screamed, would they have lived? Really?” I don’t think so.

Go rent it for sure & watch the extras because the alternate openings and endings were actually better than what the film offered us! And the twist at the end makes the film worth your time.
