Irena Dubrovna, a beautiful and mysterious Serbian-born fashion artist falls in love with and marries Oliver Reed. Their marriage suffers though, as Irena believes that she suffers from an ancient curse, that whenever emotionally aroused, she will turn into a panther and kill. But the lack of any “consummation of the marriage” turns Oliver to other women and they become Irena’s prey.
Overall: This is a good film. In some ways the remake solves this film’s problems: we see transformations, get more gore, more attacks. But this film is superior in suspense. It doesn’t show you anything but instead wants you to imagine it all. It works quite well, except for maybe the quickness in which Oliver both wants to get married and then later wants to cheat…towards the end of the film, he’s spending more time with everyone but his own wife. But a good showing overall. Comparison: Comparison: Dracula (1932) meets Cat People (1982) |
