Boa vs. Python (2004)

- written May 2004

Broddick is a wealthy sportsman who wants to have one last big safari for a few friends of his and has the perfect hunt planned. He’s having the world’s largest python brought into the U.S. so he can have a little fun. The problem with the plan is…the largest python in the world doesn’t like being kept in seclusion and it breaks free. With such a giant monster free, the U.S. Government needs to send someone after it and it decides to get the world’s largest Boa Constrictor to do so. With the help of a few experts and some computer equipment, the Boa and Python will prepare to do battle with each other with a few humans looking to spoil the monster mash!

Overall: This was a “SciFi Channel” film so needless to say it included commercials which truly bummed me out. The effects were pretty good up until the end where the computer graphics just looked so obvious. I though the biggest flaw with the film was that it never could decide who the main character was. You spend a lot of time with the FBI Detective as well with the bad guy Broddick and then with the Boa-handler and with the lady Doctor. You never could tell who the focus was supposed to be because it kept changing and then when people started to die off, the movie seemed to lose itself. The point was “Boa vs. Python” and it keeps teasing you something will happen and then follows through in its truest sense with the epic battle. Yeah they fight but it wasn’t worth the 2 hours to catch the little that the 2 behemoths engaged in. In addition the storyline had the US Government basically screwing up everything it did, including the capture and unintentional release of Broddick. This wasn’t a comedy so the script writing just left so much to be desired. I liked the basic outline of the film but felt the execution was lacking. Yeah, Playmate Angel Boris did star in the film but she couldn’t really save it.

          Comparison: None
