The Blair Witch Project (1999)

This is the story of 3 filmmakers, Heather Donahue Michael Williams, and Joshua Leonard on the trail of the Blair Witch in some woods outside the former town of Blair, Maryland. The 3 are all set for a weekend of camping and witch searching. They interview many of the locals while also videotaping their whole journey. Once in the woods, they begin to find what they are looking for and a whole lot of what they aren’t. Each night the noises they hear are creepier and creepier and they get closer and closer to the tent. They begin to bicker amongst themselves and every second, finds themselves more and more lost. They can’t even determine whether or not they are even achieving the goal of going south to find the car. When they finally realize they have crossed the same stream at the same place several times, they snap. But the action really heats up when Josh vanishes and each night afterwards the other two hear him scream in agony and pain. Will they ever get out alive?

Overall: I really enjoyed this film but felt the film could have even been scarier. The film is set to make $100 million and was only made for $100,000. Not bad. The screaming and yelling amongst the 3 when they are lost can be quite intense and at times you wish they’d have cut that out and used more of the night scenes – which are the scariest. I enjoyed it and hope everyone else does too. Beware: don't get caught up in all the hype and expect too much.
