Blade 2 (2002)

- written January 2004

Blade is back and ready to fight the good fight against his own kind. However on this occasion, it seems his enemies have a greater enemy and need his help. So he agrees to help his fellow vampires fight a group called The Reapers, who are genetically diseased vampires who feed only on other vampires. Teaming up with a group who spent 2 years training how to kill Blade, Blade must now lead them against the ultimate in evil.

Overall: I got to take a day off of work for my birthday and so I chose this film to watch in the theatres. As a frequent visitor to Prague, that one fact really brings me enjoyment from viewing this movie. However I think the effects are pretty good and story strong enough for this film to surpass its original in quality. I really liked the actor playing the evil Reaper, Novak and thought his acting to be very good. My faults with the film lay is the cheesiness of the wrestling moves by Blade at the end, the lines he uses at the end and finally…the very end. I think the movie was great up until the final 10 minutes. Next thing you know Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior seem to pop out and go at it…and as for the extreme finale in London, we could have done without it and never thought twice about the guy. Oh, and the accents (or lack thereof) bugged me. The film basically takes place entirely in Prague and almost everyone has no accent at all…and how the daughter of a Czech Vampire has a Chilean heritage beats me. But even with these flaws, I definitely liked the film. However, what happened to Dr. Karen Jenson?????

08/2003 - Blade 2 has come out on dvd and I got to view the 25 minutes of deleted scenes. Good cuts, I have to say and I rarely say that about deleted scenes. Nice idea to dump the wig for the old man but would have been nice for bio on the reapers and maybe kept how Whistler & Blade first met up. Otherwise the alternate ending was nothing to pay attention too - still as bad as what stayed in the film.

Comparison: Dracula meets The Saint (with Val Kilmer)
