- Bianca Barnett is the star of many movies, including "Albino Farm." Anyone looking for more info on Bianca or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page or her myspace page or her official website.
Q: Ms. Barnett, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: I wish I had started much sooner, but I was a working model for several years. As I approached my modeling shelf-life, I wanted to expand in a different medium, one that I was very new to. I am fascinated by the process of making a film and movie magic, so I began taking on roles in films. Basically, I started out with just about any film project I could get, whether it was a student film, short, etc. ..
Q: I know that you’ve done modeling in the past, tell me how you got started doing that. Growing up, did you have any dreams of being a model or an actress?
A: I was tall, slim and had short platinum blond hair as a teen. A hair stylist spotted me in the mall and asked me to take part in an upcoming runway show. From there, I started booking more runway and print work. Growing up, I wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to be creative. I used to draw all the time, and for a while I wanted to be an animation artist or fashion designer! It wasn't until I got into modeling that I considered acting. I had actually gone to college to study becoming a film director because I just loved all the indie films that were coming out and wanted to be a part of that scene. Going to Sundance and getting an award was a huge dream of mine! .
Q: Do you want to continue doing both or just focus on one particular genre of work?
A: I enjoy doing both, and hopefully my acting career will bring along many photo shoots and modeling work!
Q: Can you please tell me a little bit about your film "Albino Farm"?
A: The film follows the plight of four college students who, while exploring the Ozark Mountains for a midterm assignment on rural America, learn about the legend of the Albino Farm. Wondering if there is any truth behind it or if it's just a ploy to dupe tourists out of their money, they wander deep into the farm. That's when they come across a community of cave-dwelling redneck genetic mutations, headed by my character, "Pig Bitch".
Q: Give us, in your own words, what you want people to know about this film.
A: We all put a lot of hard work and time into this project. I was wearing a five pound prosthetic "helmet" on my head for upwards of 15 hours a day! All of the creatures did their own stunts and were such troopers during the entire process. I hope you will check it out once it's on DVD!
Q: If there were one part of the film that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: Wearing all the prosthetics on my head and face was no cake walk! It took about three to four hours to put on and then I would have to wait in the makeup for my scenes to be filmed. That was sheer torture! I was fine when I was performing and doing my job, but between scenes, just wearing something that massive on my head that obstructed my vision and wouldn't let me breathe through my nose... that was tough! I am so glad I did it, though, and I hope all the hard work paid off.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about “Fear Chamber?”
A: That film is currently floating around in independent film purgatory. I am not sure that might part will even appear in the film. I spent hours in the make-up chair to be turned into a "ghost woman", only to have the director freak out because my make-up was done on the wrong side of my face! Whoops.
Q: Did you meet Keesha Smith? She’s currently appearing on the CBS reality show “Big Brother.” Have you watched that or been in contact with her since the filming of your film?
A: No, I don't know who that is, I am sorry!
Q: Looking back, I see that you’ve also appeared in “In a Spiral State,” “The Devil's Muse,” and “For Rent.” Can you tell me a little about each one?
A: "The Devil's Muse" is one of the first films I worked on. It is an abstract film by cult director Ramzi Abed who I was introduced to by a mutual friend. I only make a brief appearance in the film, first as the mutilated corpse found in the field and second, as Rose, an aspiring actress. My second project with Ramzi is "In a Spiral State," and I play Marlena, a drug addict and model. This film is very mysterious, so mysterious that none of us except Ramzi know what it is actually about! "For Rent" is a short film that I will be acting in coming in September.
Q: Are there certain films you enjoy doing? What do you look for when picking films?
A: Honestly, at this point in my career, I look for films that will get the most exposure and those that pay well. It sounds shallow, but I have done so many pictures that never got released and/or I didn't get paid! I am open to doing all kinds of film, I don't want to just be limited to horror. Eventually, I would love to have more scripts to choose from and be more in demand.
Q: What projects have you been working on recently?
A: This month I finished a music video for Lucien Desar directed by Jim Towns which should be released soon. I also shot a short film called "Bunny Time Cupcakes" for director Jason Barnett.
Q: What’s next for you? If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?
A: I have the short film "For Rent" and the feature film "Blood de Madam", which is the first of a trilogy directed by Hershell Gordon Lewis, lined up to shoot in September.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?
A: As for modern directors, I love most of what the Coen Brothers direct. I also love directors with a strong visual aesthetic like Dario Argento, Mario Bava and Tim Burton.
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A: I am a homebody who would rather stay in and watch movies than go out to clubs or party. I love home and gardening, crafts, HGTV and Martha Stewart. I'm kind of like a '50s house wife that also loves getting bloody and dirty for movies!
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc?
A: I watch horror movies all the time, it's somewhat of an obsession. We used to have Monsters HD which was pretty amazing! All day... all nightmare!!! Not sure if it's that obscure, but Shadow of the Vampire is one of my favorites because it combines horror with the 1920s era. Others that are so bad they are good are Hard Rock Zombies, It Came From Hell, The Flesh-eaters, Troll 2 and Squirm. I also like Horror Express, Black Sunday, Blood and Black Lace and Motel Hell has some pretty cool scenes in it! Vintage horror seems to be my favorite, because even if it's bad, it's good fun!
Thank you very much for doing this.
