Nancy and her friends are trying to get a good night’s sleep but lately all of them are having the same nightmare: a man with a red and green rugby shirt has a glove with knives attached to it who wants the sleeper dead. So they’ll do anything to stay awake but they might not survive the night!
Overall: Clearly a damn good film and scary too. The problem though is the sequels just bastardized the horror genre and made a mockery of the first film. This one is scary for many reasons but one is that you never really see Freddy (referred to as Fred in the movie). But every good comment I have about this movie reminds me of how atrocious the sequels were! I think the biggest failing overall for the series was they only gave you info on his past but never flash-backed enough to sell you on Freddy’s “evilness.” Had we seen the character of Freddy do more before his death at the hands of his neighbors, I really though they could have done some good stuff. Instead they played with cheesy video-game effects and ruined the franchise. But if you haven’t seen this film…do so. (Spoiler) Can you believe that all these years later that the ending with Nancy defeating Freddy would be so much of a Dr. Phil/Deepak Chopra metaphysical technique? Almost screams of Sigmund Freud!
