Anatomy 2/Anatomie 2 (2003)

- written November 2003

Jo is a physician starting off at a hospital in his first week of doctor duties. While there he meets a nice Philippine woman but soon sets his sight on a secret society who does even more secrets experiments. Although knowing they are connected to the infamous events from Part 1, Jo decided to join them and recognizes that these experiments are done on their own bodies, trying to become more perfect. But Jo is being warned to get out of the group and the group would rather kill dissenters than leave them alone. So Jo’s family is in danger and he’s gotta stop it, with help from Paula.

Overall: Well clearly not as good as the first film, this film basically turns into a German version of “Skulls” or “Anti-trust.” What was so good about the first one is that any student could disappear at anytime and be operated on but here there are no scary experiments – all experiments are consensual. Nothing scary in this movie and it really is more about chasing people and action, than a mystery or thriller. What I did sort of like was the idea that their group was an “off-shoot” of the original secret group from part 1 but this group was more true to the cause. They put enough of a story into that plot vein (with the head Dr. La Rousse) to make it plausible, but again it lends more of a “Brainstorm” or “Lawnmower Man” aspect to the film than really going with what Part 1 did so well. It’s an ok film but nothing to write home about. I gotta say that after watching the deleted scenes, I am proud of what the director took out. Had he left some of that silliness in, you have thought that this was a German version of “Spiderman.”
